What is a Health Map?
A health map serves as a visualization tool of how the health resources of a locality are distributed across the area. It could reveal disparities in healthcare access and resources allocation. Thus, it can be used by policy makers for strategic distribution of limited health resources. At the same time, a health map, if contextualized with useful information such as the validation of services provided, and converted into an easily accessible applicaton, can help patients and their caregivers navigate the facilities needed for their health journeys.
The maps below show the health resources (hospital, pharmacy, medical laboratory, clinics, local health units, and TB-DOTS centers) in Region VI-Western Visayas. Data were obtained from the official websitse of the DOH and DTI for the accredited health facilities and businesses with permit to operate, respectively. However, these are not yet all of the health resources in the region, and the data still need to be validated and made more accessible to patients and other service users, as a tool to facilitate utilization.
