Our very own Dr. de Castro shared great insights with some of the brightest minds in the region at the National Academy of Science and Technology’s Regional Scientific Meeting (NAST RSM) in the Philippines.
Dr. de Castro's opportunity to contribute to meaningful conversations that drive innovation, research, and national development highlights the ATIPAN's core principles: prioritize the marginalized, empower community and promote well-being, and push forward technology/innovation deployment to the most underserved to prevent further inequities. Dr. Josel Jabadan, one of the dedicated doctors behind ATIPAN+, has brought honor to the Philippines by winning 1st Prize for the “Most Outstanding Research Award” competing against 45 countries and more than 500 family medicine doctor presenters at the 26th WONCA (World Organization of Family Doctors) Asia Pacific Conference held in Korea. Even more impressive—this was her very first time presenting on the global stage!
Her award-winning research focused on integrating telemedicine with a culturally-sensitive, community and patient-centered, and family-focused care approach in managing esotropia in an indigenous child. The study highlighted the importance of merging modern medical practices with cultural understanding—an approach that deeply resonated with the international panel. This achievement embodied the values and advocacy that ATIPAN stands for: accessible, respectful, and inclusive healthcare for underserved communities. |
